As a young faculty member in 1995, Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe saw the immense opportunity that lay ahead for business and management education to make a difference in society and transform lives. One of the key thoughts that Dr. Uday Salunkhe shared was a quote by Joel Barker,
"Vision without action is merely a dream.

While he was sure of his path ahead, he realised the need to prepare himself and be the best in the education industry. Dr. Uday Salunkhe was in the company of education experts - his own faculty & teachers; and he dreamt of designing a future for Welingkar. So he chose to invest the first few years of his tenure at Welingkar to educate himself apart from imparting education. He invested time learning and absorbing experiences from some of the world's leading educational institutes. The scale and impact these institutes created, fortified his thoughts on how an educational institute can shape the nation.
Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe becoming Director of the Institute: -
When he took over as the Director of the institute in 2000, he was sure that his dream was not only to make a difference at Welingkar but he was certain his role was to, through education, champion a million dreams! From only being a business school that provided management education to its students, Dr. Salunkhe envisioned Welingkar to redefine its role as pioneering new thinking in management education. Doing better in what existed and providing more of the same was good for incremental growth but not for the quantum leap that Welingkar needed. Dr. Uday Salunkhe at this point chose to reach out to students and faculty and see the future as they envisaged. The picture that got painted had several new dimensions, some the industry had just begun to explore, some were completely virgin territory.
Dr. Uday Salunkhe was certain that Welingkar's future would come from identifying new areas that would create new career paths for students in sunrise industries. Most importantly Welingkar as an educational institute would make meaningful contribution only by intentionally choosing to stay ahead of the curve and find a new turf.
Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe on e-Business: -
One such area was e-Business and leveraging technology. When Dr. Salunkhe and the team at Welingkar comprising students and faculty were discussing this, the dot com bubble had just burst. The team was however very confident that technology and e-Business are here to stay. Even though a few early business models went wrong, it couldn't mean the principle of e-Business was not going to survive. They were all the more sure that this of all times was the best to design a program around e-Business. With some sceptical support and criticism, Dr. Salunkhe championed India's first ever Post-graduate program in e-Business.

- The prestigious Ravi J. Mathai National Fellow Award conferred by the Association of Indian Management Schools for his exemplary contribution to India Inc. and society at large, in the fields of applied management and education 2012
- The "Grand Davos Award" at the World Communication Forum, Davos 2014, for tremendous contribution and lifelong dedication to the field of business communication in India and the region
- Special award for Global Leadership in Education by HEF (Higher Education Forum)- this was in recognition of his tremendous vision and effort in transforming WeSchool into a Business school which quite easily compares with some of the best schools in India and abroad
- Prof Dharni Sinha Memorial Award for "Excellence in Management Education" 2010 by Grid Consultants Pvt Ltd at the 12th Annual Convention on Leadership of Dr P N Singh Foundation.

- Dr Uday Salunkhe was awarded the Best Teacher Award under the special category of ‘Global Leadership’. The honor is in recognition of his immense contribution to create a global higher educational institution in India with a global perspective.
- Dr Uday Salunkhe co - authored a paper on Design Inspired Innovation for Rural India which was published in Impacting Society through Engineering Design, the Journal of ICED11 conference proceedings, volume II, paper number 261 at the Denmark Technical University.
